NY - Monsanto Years

Here's Neil Young's new album, the Monsanto Years that's soon to be released.  It's politically oriented with some of the lyrics, but then Neil has generally always been that way to a degree or has grown more that way through his musical career.  Actually I respect him for that.  He seems to care about the little man, the environment, farmers, and that sort of thing.  Anyway you can hear the album in its entirety for free for a limited time only here:  http://classicrock961.com/neil-young-monsanto-years-listen/

I'm not the biggest Neil Young fan, but I wouldn't turn down a ticket to go see him somewhere nearby. He is a talented songwriter and I can listen to his sound without getting fidgety as I do when modern pop starts to play.

I have a friend that says Neil has a narrow vocal range, and I can agree with that I guess. It's a unique vocal style for sure. I'm always amazed at how he can hook me with his melodies, write such a succinct pop/rock song, and make it seem effortless. I heard an interview he did once and he said the melodies and lyrics comes to him all at once. I'm sure he probably has to polish them up some however, still that's an amazing talent. I wonder if he'll steer clear of a lawsuit from Monsanto--the makers of agent orange and Round Up weed killer. From what I've read GMOs have a mixed opinion. I don't know how I feel about them quite honestly, but I'd rather not be eating them. I've heard they cause tumors in rats, and that's good enough to know for me.

Neil seems to have gotten kind of cranky in recent years, don't you think? The latest decision to pull all of his music from streaming services, especially in light of having just launched his own (failing) service and platform, seems a bit desperate. Legendary musician, though!

Hm, I don't know if I'd say it was cranky. I think he's always been that way to an extent, even with the musicians he's played with throughout his career. I can't relate specific incidents without researching, but just remember a few comments from some of the CSN guys, and they by and large love him, ha.

At the same time he's a man of principle, which may or may not always work to his advantage, but I'll give it to him to stick by those principles if something doesn't sit well with him. But yeah, he can be a bit fickle, though I think we all can be that way at times. But yeah, legendary musician.
