Death of the Valiant

Death of the Valiant is a short fan-made animated film based on the Star Trek universe as far as I can tell.  I don't know anything beyond what's presented on Youtube, but I thought it was pretty interesting and well made.

A prequel to the early "Where No Man Has Gone Before episode: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061027/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_118

Unless it was touched upon in one of the authorized star trek novels, however, the fate of the crew here is new.

Fans can do fx on home computers that shame even fairly upscale 1950s sf space ships, can't they?

I don't know much about the prequel, Richard, could be, but yes, it's amazing what someone can do on their home computers these days compared to the 50's effects. I like Star Trek, but I've never been into it enough to know all the intricacies of stories and characters. That would be good question to ask a more diehard Trekkie than I am. :)

I didn't phrase my remark well. The fan made film you posted is indeed a prequel to the "Star Trek" episode. I started watching the original series in 1966 and know all those episodes pretty well, but I didn't follow all the spin-offs thoroughly, so my trekkie credentials still aren't very good. I liked the "Enterprise" prequel series though, which actually lasted longer than the original.

"Free Enterprise" was a fun flick, too, with Shatner making fun of himself and of Trek fans.

Gotcha, Richard, I think your Trekkie card is still valid. I thought that was what you meant. I've seen a lot of the Trek Universe, but I couldn't tell you very specifics about any of it. I don't know if that's my recall or perhaps, I just don't go that deeply into it. I saw the first season of Enterprise, but fell off the wagon with the second season, due to them shifting air times. I should probably pick these up in the NF Q. I've got Free Enterprise, and the films Trekkies & Trekkies 2, which are fun examinations of Trekkie fandom.

There's one fan film I haven't seen, however, were Shatner helped get made (I think), called The Captains (or something like that). You can find it on Amazon. NF doesn't carry it for some reason. I've thought about streaming it on Amazon, just to watch it, but have not done so yet.
